Bonding is an extremely versatile way to improve the appearance of your smile. Similar to
laminates
or veneers, bonding is commonly used to fill in spaces between teeth, improve the appearance of poorly
shaped teeth, teeth that are slightly crooked and those that are chipped or worn. They are also routinely
used to whiten discolored teeth. While bonding is very versatile it is inferior to both
laminates and veneers
because the material used is more prone to stain and fracture.
One advantage that bonding holds over porcelain veneers is that treatment can generally be completed in
a single visit, and in some cases can be done without the use of an anesthetic. Bonding involves mixing
composite materials which are then applied to existing tooth structure. The application of a special
light or chemical process hastens the hardening of the material which can then be shaped, smoothed
and polished.
