A dental crown can restore the strength, appearance, and function of a damaged tooth. At Dentistry at the Heights, we offer both traditional and same-day dental crowns to meet the needs of patients who visit our Brooklyn Heights, NY, practice. Rather than providing crowns made of metal amalgam, we choose to utilize some of the most durable and lifelike materials available. Schedule an appointment today to learn more about the types of dental crowns we offer.
Dental crowns are sometimes called “caps” because they completely cover the surface of a tooth. We may recommend a crown if you have:
If you are missing a single tooth, we can provide an implant-supported crown. We will examine your smile and discuss your treatment options to determine the best approach.
Depending on your goals and budget, your crown can be created from IPS e.max® ceramic, IPS Empress® porcelain, or Prettau® zirconia.
If you choose to receive a traditional dental crown, the doctor will begin by removing any decay and reshaping your tooth. This will ensure that the crown forms a secure bond and remains in proper alignment with surrounding teeth. Next, we will take digital impressions of the reshaped tooth. In most cases, we use highly precise digital impressions. However, depending on the restorative material you select, you might require standard impressions, as well.
The impressions will be sent to our partner lab, where technicians will create a custom crown that will blend flawlessly with your smile. Depending on your goals and budget, your crown can be created from IPS e.max® ceramic, IPS Empress® porcelain, or Prettau® zirconia. Each of these materials offers a lifelike look and sheen to closely mimic the appearance of natural enamel. When your crown is finished, you will return to our practice to ensure a proper fit before having it bonded securely in place.
Thanks to our state-of-the-art CEREC® (chairside economical restoration of esthetic ceramics) system, we can complete a crowning procedure during a single appointment in many cases. We will begin the same-day crowning process by reshaping your tooth and taking digital impressions. The impressions will be uploaded to the CEREC® system, which will then mill your crown from a solid block of porcelain by working much like a 3-D printer. It will typically take an hour or less to create your same-day crown, and you can relax while watching Netflix or listening to Pandora® radio during this time. Once it is finished, our doctors will bond it securely in place.
A custom dental crown from Dentistry at the Heights can restore your smile and boost your self confidence. To explore the benefits of same-day dental crowns, reach out to our practice today.
