What to Expect During Your Dental Implants Consultation By Kevin Trotter, DDS on October 12, 2022

At the same time, the decision to get implants is a big commitment. That is why we offer an extensive dental implants consultation at our Brooklyn, NY, office.

At Dentistry at The Heights, we will use our advanced technology to assess your oral health and create a personalized treatment plan. Furthermore, we are committed to patient comfort and well-being. We will answer all your questions and discuss sedation and financing, as well.

Evaluating Candidacy for Implants

First your dentist will need to make sure that implants are a suitable treatment for you. Your jawbone and periodontal health are important considerations. If you have gum disease, we may recommend periodontal treatment prior to implant surgery. Jawbone recession can also impact your candidacy because the implant posts will not have enough support. Many times, however, a bone graft can restore your candidacy for implants.

Your dentist will also discuss your health history to see whether you have any medical conditions that might impact healing.

Determining Implant Placement

Once we know that implants are appropriate for you, your dentist will begin planning your surgery. Our cone beam scans will capture three-dimensional images of your jaw. With these images, your dentist can determine exactly where to place the implant posts for maximum support and minimal impact to your jaw.

We will also upload these images to our surgical software to perform computer-guided implant surgery. With a 3-D image of your mouth, your dentist can determine the right position for your implant posts, and may also craft a surgical splint to act as a guide during surgery.

Planning for a Stress-free Procedure

We will outline how to help you feel calm and relaxed during treatment. At our Brooklyn Heights office, we offer several forms of sedation, including nitrous oxide, oral conscious sedation, and IV sedation. We can explain the various options and help you select the right one, depending on the extent of your surgery and your desired comfort level.

Discussing Financing

At your consultation, we will not only discuss surgical details. We understand that financing is an important consideration when it comes to treatment, and we will determine a payment plan in keeping with your needs.

Implants are often covered by insurance. Before you begin treatment, we are happy to verify coverage with your provider. If you do not have insurance, or if you need help with your out-of-pocket costs, we also accept CareCredit®. Our office team can explain how this third-party financing works and help you with your application.
